P4 Location Shoot

Artist Statement:

Florida is widely known for its  diversity, but throughout this project I became more aware of the diversity of sound throughout my visit. Each photograph in this series is paired with a piece of music that reflects the atmosphere, emotion, and personal meaning behind the image. By connecting sound with photos, I aim to show how memories of place are often shaped by what we hear as much as what we see.

The first photograph is represented by Free bird by Lynyrd Skynyrd, a song that captures a sense of freedom and movement reflective of Florida’s energy. The second image, taken at the entrance of Universal's Islands of Adventure, connects to Last Son,” the instrumental opening theme from the 2025 film Superman. Its lack of lyrics emphasizes anticipation and hope, reinforcing the feeling that every new adventure begins with possibility. The third photograph also takes place at Universal Studios. I paired "City of Stars" with this to match the surreal, almost cinematic feeling from the location. Another photograph, taken at Alfond Stadium at Rollins College, focuses on a retro scoreboard that symbolizes history through wear, tradition, and legacy. This image reminds me of Ray Charles’s rendition of “America the Beautiful,” bringing nostalgia and pride. The final image captures a Mardi Gras parade at Universal Studios, paired with Louis Armstrong’s “La Vie en Rose,” reflecting the surreal experience of witnessing a vibrant tradition uncommon in the Midwest.
